RIP - Tom Brown

Tom Brown, a 2-sport player in the 1960s, passed away on April 24, 2025 at age 84.
Brown was the Green Bay Packers' 2nd-round pick in 1963, however, he chose to play baseball in the Washington Senators' organization in 1963 and 1964.

He played both seasons for the Nats' AA team, while also appearing in 61 games for Washington in 1963. A first baseman and outfielder, he was primarily used as a pinch hitter while with the Senators.

After being stuck back in the minors in 1964, he switched to football that summer, and signed with the Packers. He played in every game with Green Bay from 1964-68, and was a starting safety in all but one game from 1965-68. He had 13 regular-season interceptions during his 5-year Packers career.

His biggest moment may have been his end-zone interception of a Don Meredith pass in the last minute of the 1966 NFL Championship Game, ensuring a Packers' win and a trip to Super Bowl I.

In 1969, new Redskins' coach Vince Lombardi's first trade was for Brown, who played one game for Washington before an injury ended his career.
